Charlie has been adopted! !

after nearly 4 months Charlie has been adopted by a wonderful fmaily of 3 - mom shelley, dad and 8 yr old boy. he went home to his new family today.

they first came to visit charlie on sunday. dad didn't seem all that interested and the boy was very shy, wouldn't even touch charlie but the mom loved him. charlie didn't even a bark once the entire visit unlike the first family that came to see him where he never stopped barking (they also brought there small dog and 4 children so it may have been overwhelming) they even took him for a walk and he was quiet, true he did have a toy in his mouth but still quite impressive for charlie.we did tell them about his barking, his excesive need to chew on toys/bones and he can be a bit mouthy when giving him treats

they first saw charlie on petfinder but wasn't sure they wanted an older dog. both had large dogs when growing up but for various reasons it was never the right time as adults. now they were ready but had problems adopting. why - because there son was 8. i actually checked and sure enough the local humane society said over 12 even for senior dogs. how crazy is that. 8 is a great age for a kid to get a dog. so they went to craigs list.. and who do they see on craigs list - charlie.

previously there has been a few inquires about charlie from craigs list but as soon as they heard they had to fill out an application, that was the end of them. but not shelley. even though he was older, he seemed so full of life - there was a video of him fetching. she even sent the video to relatives and friends at work before even meeting charlie. her biggest concern was that they had 2 cats. charlie has shown no interest outside in birds,squirrels, etc. we took him to the store sunday morning where they have cats to adopt. he saw one in a crate and had no reaction. i honestly do not think i t will be a problem.

i felt very good about the family. He would not be left along on most days for no longer than 3 hours and shelley even wanted to take him to work as she works in a small but very dog friendly office. . i was not sure how well that woudl be with his barking but you never know. I was hoping when they took him for the walk they were going to discuss it. they left saying they were going to tihnk about it. around 5 minutes passed and there as a knock on the door. they wanted charlie. however they were not ready for him. so we went over things they needed. he was pa id for and

would be picking him up Friday as she has the following week off. I was expecting the next day they changed their mind. instead got messages they were getting very excited and were getting stuff ready.

friday morning they came and picked up charlie. I had a goodie bag made for them including his favorite toys and a cd of all photos/videos of him. got an email later that he seems to be adjusting fine and when introduced to the cats, tried to give them a toy ( makes you wonder if charlie when he was owned lived with cats). they said they would send pictures.

what a long post - started this sunday and been doing bits each day - may be this is why my hand has been really bad the past couple of days and I pushed myself to much to finish this

2 friends from sbf have recently had surgery so made get well cards for them - i am so happy both are doing well and appear to be on the road to getting better

for linda ( belle15)
Linda just went through lung surgery. She lost 1/3 of one of her lungs and she was in fear of having lung cancer. Thank goodness it was benign

for lindsey (Lindsay1973) she had gall bladder surgery- it was removed

Seattle area ice storm - no power for nearly 3 days

from early thrusday morning to sat night I had no power. even now as of sunday night there are still about 100,000 without power. basically after having snow on ties and wed , an ice storm - freezing rain hit the area. Branches on trees were icicles and trees and branches were falling along with power lines. some have been w/o power since tuesday.

at one point they said 300,000 had no power. area was declared state of emergency. power crews were brought in from other parts of washingotn and nearby states but didn't arrive until fri afternoon and say all won't be restored until tuesday.

thurs morn jerry took photos ,tonight he finally uploaded them- he ONLY took literally a handful of photos , mostly distant shots. - nothing of trees fallen in yard. unbelievable!

on thurs never left the house all day as road conditions were just awful. found an ancient walkman that had a radio so we are getting weather and updates. afternoon wasn't too bad as some heat remained plus i have a gas fireplace in my family room.

news radio was doing what they called neighbor ot neighbor wher e people called up and told briefly what they were going thru. while helpful radio also says dumb things - like mention places to go if have no heat( churches, community centers, etc) but not all. then says for full list go to website. if we could get on web than we have power. also they seem to forget that if you don't live on main road you are not going to be out driving as side streets don't get plowed here. i have never listed to talk radio as much as i did these past days

on fri and sat once roads were better went to library to charge up laptops and it was packed.

i don't even want to think how much worse this would have been if weather did not warm up and rain on fri.

with each day was very concerned about food in fridge and freezer but after power was back on checked everything and it seems like all is good.

I did this as a OKC - i thought those cutesy elements were jsut adorable and when I saw this posted as a OKC i just had to make a page of cooper using it.

after i requested to do the OKC, nathalie asked if i wanted to join her ct team. She had a ct call a couple of weeks ago. i had thought about applying then but i had just join kakleidesigns ct team and wasn't sure if i could handle both as both seem to do about 1-2 kits per week. nathalie has said she will be doing less kits as she is expecting next month, so perhaps i will do so.

As I have had Charlie for about 6 weeks now - thought it was overdue to do a new page of him - last one of charlie was halloween. it has been ages since I have done a page that wasn't ct or for a challenge.

so far only one person has expressed any interest in him at all and the woman never came to see him thru no fault of charlie. a friend of hers told her about a craigs list posting and she went to it,. it was a great dane in bad shape. the owner asked no questions so it was pretty obvious she was willing to give the dog to the first person who would take him. she had to get the dog out of there.

he is going to be so tough to adopt and thats without the petfinder listing mentioning his barking problem. any potential adopter will be told about it.

here are some photos from the mutt mixer - jerry uploaded the photos( he deletes the really bad ones) so i don't know actually how many there were but after he gave it to me there were 148 photos. so here is just a small sampling of ones with cooper or us.

cooper can be such a ham when is around other people.

i will be able to get so many good extractions of cooper in his santa suit for future pages.

city dog magazine hosted is annual mutt xmas mixer wed night. Jerry and I took Cooper there without charlie ( our foster dog) as Cooper could use good one-on-one time with us plus charlie would not do well in that situation.

what is a mutt mixer ? think of a happy hour party with dogs allowed. several of the dogs had on holiday wear and cooper had on his santa suit. i couldn't believe it he smiled nearly the entire time. took over 100 photos from the night.

will do another post tomorrow showing off more of the photos
